Who is Register4?

Register4, an initiative of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, is Australia’s first online community for people interested in receiving information about opportunities to participate in breast cancer research. We help researchers spend less time and money recruiting volunteers, so they can spend more time finding better preventative measures and a cure. It’s free to join, confidential and anyone aged 18 years and over can take part.

When you become a member, you are registering 4 answers, 4 cure, 4 future and 4 life.

Why Register4 needs you

Researchers speak often of how long it can take to find the right people to participate in their work - it can sometimes take years. When looking for large groups of women to participate in research projects, the cost to recruit and identify suitable participants can run high. Register4 aims to help cut those costs right down, so that medical research funding can be used more effectively. The more people who join Register4, the fewer delays and the faster researchers can get to work.

Helping someone’s favourite person

Register4 exists to harness your personal passions, to help you do something positive for your own health and the health of the women you care about most. If your Mum, best friend, Gran or someone you love has been diagnosed, joining Register4 allows you to do something incredible that could help them and millions of others around the world.

Who should join

We’re looking for all kinds of individuals from all different walks of life (you don’t need to have had breast cancer). Members of our breast cancer community are aged 18 or over, come from right around Australia, and are predominantly women. Men are more than welcome to join too, although there may not be as many projects that are offered to our male members at first.

You can read some of the inspiring stories about our members in the Member Stories section.

Helping make a big impact

A similar register called Army of Women was launched in the US towards the end of 2008. After one year they had over 323,000 members and this number has continued to rise. They have successfully recruited all of the required participants for more than 18 breast cancer research studies and in many cases it only took 24 hours to recruit all of the people the researcher required.

When you consider that it has taken some researchers several years to find all of the people they need, this is just one example of the huge impact that can be made by Register4.
